【摘要】:Thispracticecanbeusedtomeasuretheinsulationprovidedbydifferentcoldweatherclothingsystemsusingaheatedmanikin(seeF1291)andtopredictthetemperatureratingforcomfortusingwholebodyheatlossmodels.Thetemperatureratingisforanensemblex2014;notanindividualgarment.However,manufacturerswanttolabelcoldweathergarmentswithatemperatureratingtohelpconsumersselecttheproductthatwillbestmeettheirneeds.Therefore,thestandardislimitedtogarmentsthatcoverasubstantialamountofbodysurfaceareasuchasjackets,coats,andinsulatedpants,coveralls,orsnowsuits.Thetemperatureratingsofheadwear,footwear,andhandwearcannotbedeterminedwiththispractice.Thetemperaturepredictionsdeterminedbythisstandardpracticeareforadultsonly.Thephysiologyofchildrenissignificantlydifferentfromthatofadults,soamodifiedheatlossmodelwouldneedtobeusedtopredictthecomfortofchildrenwearingoutdoorclothing.Thetemperatureratingsdeterminedbythisstandardpracticeandlistedongarmentlabelsareonlyguidelinesforcomfortandwillbeaffectedbythegarmentsconsumerswearwiththem,theiractivitylevelduringwear,andindividualdifferencesinthephysiologicalcharacteristicsofpeople(forexample,gender,age,bodymass,etc.).1.1Thisstandardpracticecoversthedeterminationofthetemperatureratingofcoldweatherprotectiveclothingensembles.ItinvolvesmeasuringtheinsulationvalueofaclothingensemblewithaheatedmanikininaccordancewithF1291andusingaheatlossmodeltopredictthelowestenvironmentaltemperatureforcomfort.1.2Thepredictivemodelusedinthisstandardestimatestheevaporativeheatlossfromapersonwearingcoldweatherclothingasopposedtomeasuringtheevaporativeresistanceonasweatingmanikin.Ifapersonisactiveandgetsoverheatedinacoldenvironment,he/shecanadjustthegarmentsinordertodissipateexcessheat.1.3Thetemperatureratingsestimatedbythisstandardpracticeareguidelinesforthermalcomfortthataredesignedtoprotectpeoplefromhypothermiawhenwearingcoldweatherprotectivegarments.However,localizedcooling,discomfort,andevenfrostbitecouldstilloccuratextremelylowtemperaturesbecauseclothinginsulationisnotevenlydistributedoverthebodysurface.Inaddition,somebodyparts(forexample,ears,fingers,toes)haveahighsurfacearearelativetotheirmass,andconsequentlyloseheatatafasterratethanotherpartsofthebody.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
